D&E, My Health Train Nursing Scholarship, Employment Program | Tuesday News


Elkins – Davis & Elkins College and Mon Health System Inc. signed an agreement on Monday to provide nursing students with a scholarship opportunity and guaranteed employment upon graduation.

The Mon Health Scholars program is open to students entering Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree programs as well as those transitioning from LPN to ASN.

The program combines D&E nursing education of distinction and excellence with clinical rotation throughout the region, including new opportunities within the Mon Health System. Mon Health is the parent company of Mon Health Medical Center in Morgantown, Mon Health Preston Memorial Hospital in Kingwood and Mon Health Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital in Weston.

“We are very excited about this opportunity to become a campus of the My Health Scholars program,” said Chris A. Wood, president of Davis & Elkins College. “When we talk about D&E, it means Davis & Elkins and it also means distinction and excellence. Today, we particularly talk about the excellence of the faculty we have to lead our nursing program. The result of this program who have been built over so many years, they are excellent nurses.Today, Mon Health recognizes the excellence of this program and we are delighted to have this opportunity for this partnership.

The scholarship provides financial support which may include tuition, textbooks, and university fees. After graduating as a nurse, graduates are guaranteed employment within the Mon health system.

D&E Executive Vice President Rosemary Thomas, D&E Board Chair Mark Barber, D&E Vice President and Academic Affairs Vice President Rob Phillips, President of the Nursing Division of D&E, Mon Health Chief Nursing Officer Dr. Huixin Wu also participated in the ceremony. Krystal Atkinson, Lotoya Henry-Ojugbana, Director of Talent Acquisition for Mon Health System, and Katie Davison, Director of Human Resources for Mon Health. Davis & Elkins Faculty of Nursing was also present.

Scholarship applicants must be admitted into the D&E nursing program and maintain a cumulative college GPA of 2.0, while meeting the D&E nursing program GPA requirements. Students who have less than 12 college course credits must have a high school GPA of 3.0. Students must also reside in West Virginia, Pennsylvania, or Maryland. My Health System will select recipients for each fall and spring semester.

In concert with D&E’s mission to “prepare and inspire students to succeed and to engage thoughtfully in the world”, the Division of Nursing seeks to provide students with a personalized, quality education designed to prepare graduates for practice as registered nurses and to provide a foundation for lifelong learning and future professional development. Students can choose to pursue an Associate of Science in Nursing or a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Programs are also available for transitioning from LPN to ASN and from an online RN to BSN.
