As part of the Ayushman Bharat digital mission, the Indian government has launched the Digital Health Card 2022 initiative. The health card is significant as it allows people to digitally save their medical history in one place.

The government of India has started the process of digitizing medical records with the digital health card 2022. People have to register on the Health ID portal where this feature is enabled. Notably, the government claims that health records will be the sole property of the individual who would also have the ability to delete them at any time.

To register for the digital health card, citizens must have an Aadhaar card or driver’s license, a mobile phone number linked to the Aadhaar card, a copy of the certificate of birth and proof of residence. Additionally, people can apply for their digital health card 2022 online by using their Aadhaar card or driving license and then filling in the digital health card 2022 registration form. They can then download a digital health card ABHA.

Here’s how to sign up for the digital health card:

STEP 1 Visit the Health ID portal (https://healthid.ndhm.gov.in/).

STEP 2 Select the create a digital health card button at the top.

STEP 3 Click on Aadhar Card or Driver’s License and continue with Next button.

STEP 4 Enter Aadhaar card number or driver license number and proceed to next button.

STEP 5 Fill in complete details including name, address, phone number, OTP received and any other required information. This would complete the profile.

STEP 6 Further, complete an online application form and the 14-digit digital health card (ABHA number) will be created.

STEP 7 A notification would come about the creation of the ABHA number and the health ID card can be downloaded from the website.

Authorities are trying to ‘motivate’ more private hospitals to join the government’s flagship health program Ayushman Bharat PMJAY, targeting a sector that has stayed away saying the fees allowed are too low.

At present, PMJAY has a network of 25,000 incorporated hospitals, both private and public, with a 42% share (11,000) of private healthcare providers. They offer nearly 2,000 treatment procedures in 27 specialties.

Ayushman Bharat aims to cover over 100 million poor and vulnerable families, or approximately 500 million individuals, providing coverage of up to five lakh per family per year for secondary and tertiary care hospitalization.
